About us

Our company exists to promote and protect life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. We design, build, and support security and intelligence products. Our core expertise is in small, lightweight, low cost radar systems for unmanned and manned aircraft, primarily in the military domain. We cover the entire lifecycle, often beginning with defining a market where none exists, designing and building the product, training the customer on how to use the system, and supporting it in the field with field service technicians or an embedded analyst team within the unit we support.

We have some exciting opportunities and we are looking to grow our team by bringing on a Software Systems Engineer. In addition to smarts, skills, and experience, we're after someone who is a healthy fit--someone who aligns with our company core values. These are our values, and they define how we behave and how you can succeed with our company:

  • All in - we're all in the same boat
    • We are all in together and we need people who work well on a team and really care about what we're doing. We need people who are willing to do whatever task may be necessary to get the job done, even if it's not their first choice.
  • Stand up - we stand accountable with integrity
    • We take responsibility for our actions and we need people who can make and keep commitments.
  • Can-do - innovate with a can-do attitude
    • We do things that matter, and we tackle hard problems that others are afraid to take on. We need creative and innovative people.

Job Description

We're a fairly flat company and we have a matrix-style engineering organization. You'd be a key member of the systems engineering team, guiding the design and development efforts of our Software, Algorithms, Firmware, and Verification teams.

Regarding smarts, skills, and experience, we need someone who can take a high level view of the sensor capabilities and customer requirements and determine what software features and architecture are required to create a delighted customer experience. Software is needed to plan sensor usage, control the sensor, monitor the sensor, send sensor data over data links, process sensor data, and present processed data in a meaningful format. These are some of the things that are important to us:

  • You have at least a Bachelor's degree in a programming related field. A Masters or PhD would be preferable.
  • You have a minimum of 5 years' experience leading a team of developers
  • You can teach and mentor others in good software development principles and practices
  • You can see the big picture and define and guide software development activities based on external and internal requirements
  • You can unify software teams to implement these requirements more fluidly and cohesively
  • You are conversant in hardware and firmware and you've had experience working with embedded systems
  • You are close enough to the code that you can still make meaningful contributions
  • You can identify and manage large-scale refactors that improve the codebase
  • You will add significant value to design reviews, code reviews, and merge requests
  • You understand both traditional and Agile development methods, and you are comfortable working between them
  • You have worked on high-reliability systems before, and you understand the NFRs that come as a result
  • You are well versed and experienced with C++
  • You are comfortable and capable of working with engineers specialized in embedded software, application software, web-based development, algorithms, and firmware
  • You are comfortable and capable of interfacing with customers

We like to take care of our team members. Here's what you can expect from us:

  • We offer a competitive salary
  • We place a high value on work-life balance
  • We have a flex schedule so running errands, going to family events, or doing 4/10s or 9/9s isn't a problem
  • We have a generous profit sharing bonus, a 401k match, health plan and employer HSA contributions
  • You'll get PTO, plus 11 holidays off throughout the year including the week between Christmas and New Years

We encourage you to take a look at our website and spend a little time researching what we do. If this opportunity looks like a good fit to you, we'd love to hear from you. When you apply, please include a resume and an informal cover letter explaining what you're passionate about and what interests you most about the opportunity.
